The price is also great for a product of this caliper. I have been in the building and woodworking industry for about 30 years. Amazon has also been a pleasure to deal with, my product was shipped and recieved as promised. Makes doing stairs a breeze, probably cuts your time on the project by 2/3. I have made and used many jigs including the portacable version of the wheaton. The wheaton is a fantastic jig, it does everything expected and is very well built.
But, alas, it was the right tool. In fact I thought that they sent me the wrong tool. Very pleasently surprised with the quality and the quick receipt of the tool. I ordered the wheaton Tools PL200 Stair Wizard and expected to get an inexpensive tool that would do the job for me. After just a few days I received what I can oly describe as a high quality "upgraded" tool than what I expected.
They wanted their stairs to match. Believe me, there are no two risers or stairs with the same angles or dimensions.
EACH step fit perfectly. After gluing oak bull nose to pieces of laminate flooring, I traced the lines from the "Wizard." After cutting on the outside of the traces I used a belt sander to smooth the edges down to the inside of the trace.
I'm a retired guy, never a carpenter, but this tool enabled me to put beautiful, custom-fitted risers and steps onto two sets of carpeted stairways. I couldn't believe the fit.
Risers were much easier but the technique of trimming down to the inside of the trace was the same. In both cases, our children were putting laminate wood flooring onto both floors of their homes.
Tore off the carpet, cut off stair leading edges, then used the "Wizard" to create tight fitting risers and stairs.
Beautifully stained hardwood,I don't know whether to use it or hang it on a wall. In a world of cheap mass produced throw away tools it was amazing to open that box and find a quality crafted tool that has the potential to be passed on for generations.
I have never seen a perfectly square inside to inside stairwell, and this guide will let you cut perfect treads every time.Well made, and 5 stars rating. It will pay for itself on the first job in saved time. If you do trim work for a living, you can't afford not to have one of these. I have installed stair treads with and without this guide and I will never do one without it again.
